Where Schematic Box fits

It also appears in 1 trader offer.

Recipe and trader connections checked for version 1.0.1.869.

How to get it

Routes and locations

The most predictable supply is the Farmers Hideout exchange: 1 Broccoli Crate buys 5 Schematic Boxes, and each box can be spent on one random eligible unlock.

Method / location

Tapebots and loot crates

Standard and Red Tapebots have a 25% chance to drop 1 box. Crate chances range from 13.33% in common surface or underground crates to 16.67% in Common Warehouse and higher-tier crates.

Minidungeon Interior 03

This specific interior layout contains 2 placed Schematic Boxes. Procedural generation determines whether the layout appears on a route.

This fixed station is where a box is consumed. One completed scan selects one recipe from the remaining eligible random pool.

Before you leave
  • Bring 2 Broccoli Crates when the goal is one full 10-box stack.
  • A box is only offered at the station while random-pool recipes remain.
  • Do not expect a box to select a trader, quest, Growlab, or treasure recipe.

Container percentages are the combined chance that the selected reward group contains a box. A particular world can reuse or omit procedural layouts.

What One Box Actually Does

Putting a Schematic Box into the Schematicbot and completing the scan consumes one box. The reward is one randomly selected recipe from the eligible recipes that are still locked in that save.

The box is not tied to the picture of one specific part and does not produce a finished item. After the unlock registers, the newly available recipe must still be crafted at its normal station with its normal ingredients.

How to Scan a Box

  1. Carry at least one Schematic Box to the fixed Schematicbot station.
  2. Interact with the station and select the box from the available inputs.
  3. Press Scan and wait for the roughly two-second scan to finish.
  4. Confirm the finished scan to register the randomly selected recipe.
  5. Open the Craftbot or Saw Table list and find the newly available recipe.

Plan the Broccoli Trade

The Farmers Hideout exchange gives 5 Schematic Boxes for 1 Broccoli Crate. Because boxes stack to 10, two exchanges convert 2 Broccoli Crates into one full inventory stack.

A full stack represents up to 10 random unlock attempts, but only while eligible recipes remain. Trading for more boxes after the random pool is exhausted does not create new trader, quest, Growlab, or treasure rewards.

Use Combat and Crates to Build a Supply

Standard Tapebots and Red Tapebots each have a separate 25% chance to drop one Schematic Box. Common surface and underground crates have a 13.33% combined box chance, while Common Warehouse and Epic or Legendary crates reach 16.67%.

The higher crate tiers can award 2–3 boxes instead of one. A specific Minidungeon Interior 03 layout also contains two placed boxes, but procedural generation does not guarantee that exact interior on every route.

  • Use Warehouse combat preparation before treating Tapebots as a repeatable supply route.
  • Check high-value crates even when the Broccoli trade remains the most predictable bulk option.
  • Keep the 10-item stack limit in mind before opening several crates.

Random Boxes and Exact Unlocks Are Different

A Schematic Box chooses one eligible recipe at random. An eligible part marked with the blue schematic icon can instead be scanned at the Schematicbot to unlock that exact part's recipe without consuming the part.

Trader offers marked as recipe unlocks are a third route: paying the listed cost unlocks the pictured recipe immediately. Those trades do not award the pictured part and do not require a Schematicbot scan.

  • Use a blue-icon part when the exact recipe matters.
  • Use a Schematic Box when any remaining random-pool recipe is useful.
  • Use the Farmers Hideout or Mining Hub recipe offers for their listed exact unlocks.

When a Box Is Not Offered for Scanning

The Schematicbot only presents a Schematic Box as a usable input while the save still has a recipe in the eligible random pool. If the box is in the inventory but missing from the station, first check whether those random unlocks have already been exhausted.

  • Confirm that the box is in the inventory of the player using the station.
  • Check the Craftbot and Saw Table for recipes already unlocked on this save.
  • Remember that direct trader and quest recipes are deliberately outside the box pool.
  • In multiplayer, let the host finish the scan and verify the recipe list if the interface appears out of sync.

The Empty-Unlock Fix

Patch 1.0.1 corrected cases where a Schematic Box completed without unlocking anything. The same update also addressed stale schematic icons on already unlocked items and recipe-unlock problems in larger multiplayer sessions.
